Melbet Football Betting

Football is the sport most people in Ethiopia bet on. The European leagues have a huge following here, and so do domestic and African competitions. The trouble is that a single match can carry dozens of markets with abbreviations that aren't obvious. Here's how to find matches quickly and what the main football markets actually mean.

Finding a football match

Open the sportsbook and choose Football. Competitions are grouped by country, with the major international tournaments listed on their own. Most people start from the top leagues, but the menu goes much deeper than that. Lower divisions, cups, women's football and youth tournaments appear when they're in season.

If you already know the team, search is faster. Type the club name and every open event for that team appears, including friendlies and cup ties.

Kick-off times depend on your time zone. Ethiopia runs on East Africa Time (UTC+3). If a kick-off looks an hour or two out, check the time zone in your account or device settings before you plan a bet around it.

Which domestic Ethiopian and regional African matches are listed depends on the calendar and on each competition's coverage. If a match isn't there, it isn't open for betting yet.

Football markets explained

The first markets on every match page are the most popular. Here's what they mean:

MarketWhat you're betting onGood to know
1X2 (match result)1 = home win, X = draw, 2 = away win.Settled on the result after 90 minutes plus stoppage time. Extra time and penalties don't count unless stated.
Double chanceTwo of the three results: 1X, 12 or X2.Lower odds, but you're covered for two results.
Total goals (over/under)Whether the match has more or fewer goals than a line, such as 2.5.A half-goal line can't land exactly on the number, so there's no refund.
Both teams to scoreYes if both teams score at least once. The final score doesn't matter, only whether both teams scored.
HandicapOne team starts with a goal advantage or deficit.Asian handicap lines like -0.25 split your stake across two lines and can settle as half-won or half-lost.
Correct scoreThe exact final score.High odds because it's hard to call.
Half-time marketsResult or goals in the first or second half only. Each half settles on its own.
Corners, cards and player marketsCorner counts, bookings or a player to score.Check the market rules for how own goals and substitutions are handled.

Live football betting

Once a match kicks off it moves to the live section and the odds start reacting to the game. A goal reprices almost every market at once. A red card shifts the result and goal lines. During penalties, VAR checks and goalmouth scrambles, markets are briefly suspended, which is why your slip may show Market suspended. The live betting guide covers this in detail.
