After you log in you land on featured and live events, with tabs for Sports, Live, Casino and your account.
The Melbet app is a free mobile app for sports betting, live betting and the casino. On Android you install it as an APK from the official site. On iPhone, availability depends on your country's App Store. The mobile website works everywhere with nothing to install. Below: what's inside the app, how it compares with the website, whether it's safe, and which option we'd choose in Ethiopia.
The key facts, checked against the official site and app listings:
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Android | APK download from the official site, version 257.05 |
| iPhone / iPad | Depends on the App Store in your country |
| Mobile website | Yes, in any browser, nothing to install |
| Sports betting | Yes, pre-match and live |
| Casino | Slots, Live Casino and Fast Games |
| Payments in the app | The same cashier as the website: TeleBirr, CBEbirr, M-Pesa, banks, cards and crypto |
| Cost | Free |
| Account | The same account as the website |
| Licence | Curaçao, OGL/2024/561/0554 (Pelican Entertainment B.V.) |
| Age | 18+ only |
| Last checked | 29 September 2026 |
They all lead to the same account, balance and bet history. The difference is how you get in.
Open melbet.et in your browser. Nothing to install, and updates happen automatically.
An installed app for Android phones, with its own icon and sign-in.
Options for iOS, including a Home Screen shortcut to the mobile site.
The Android installation file itself, for installing the app directly.
On Android, Melbet is installed as an APK file straight from the official site. It's free and takes about two minutes:
Use Chrome or your phone's browser. Download on the phone itself, not on a computer. Use Wi-Fi if you can, because the file is about 70.7 MB.
Tap the phone icon or the Android link at the top of the site, or open the Melbet mobile app section.
The APK file starts downloading to your Downloads folder.
It should be about 70 MB and named Melbet. A tiny file or a different name means something's wrong, so delete it.
When Android asks, allow it for the browser you used. On Tecno, Infinix and itel phones, search Settings for "unknown" to find it.
Open the file and tap Install. It takes a few seconds.
Settings → Apps → your browser → Install unknown apps → off. You only need it again for a manual update.
Use your existing details, or register with your +251 number.
Got an error like "App not installed"? The Android guide lists the fixes. To check that your file is genuine, see the APK guide.

Apple only allows apps from the App Store, and the Melbet listing depends on your country. Either way, you can be betting from your Home Screen in under a minute:
Open the App Store and search for "Melbet: Sport Betting & Casino".
Make sure it's the official Melbet listing, and that your iOS version meets the minimum shown. Then tap Get and install as usual.
Go to melbet.et. The full sportsbook, casino and cashier work in the browser.
The Share button is the square with an arrow. Name the icon "Melbet" and tap Add.
It opens straight into the site like an app and always loads the latest version, so there's nothing to update.
Don't install anything claiming to be a Melbet iPhone app from outside the App Store, and don't change your Apple ID country to get it. The iPhone page explains why.
All of them use the same account, balance and bet history. The difference is how you get in, and what it costs your phone.
| Android app | Mobile website | iPhone | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Install needed | Yes, about 70.7 MB | No | App Store where listed, or a Home Screen shortcut |
| Storage used | The app plus its cache | Browser cache only | Depends on the option |
| Access | App icon | Browser, or a Home Screen shortcut | App icon or shortcut |
| Push notifications | Depends on the app version | Limited | Depends on the option |
| Updates | In-app prompt or a new APK | None needed | Through the App Store, or none for the shortcut |
| Sports, live betting and casino | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Same account and balance | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Best for | Frequent bettors | Occasional use, older phones, low storage | Check your local App Store first |
If you're not sure, start with the mobile website. You can install the app later without changing anything in your account.
The app is the same product as the website, laid out for a phone screen:
After you log in you land on featured and live events, with tabs for Sports, Live, Casino and your account.
The route to a bet is sport, then competition, then event, then market. Search jumps straight to a team or league. Live events show the score and match time next to odds that update, and markets pause briefly after goals or cards.
Shows your selections, the bet type, your stake and the potential return, plus how odds changes are handled before you confirm. Bet slip sale (cash out) appears in your bet history on eligible bets.
Slots grouped by category and provider, live dealer tables, and short-format Fast Games, with search, favourites and recently played.
Balance and bonus balance, deposits and withdrawals with the same Ethiopian methods as the website (TeleBirr, CBEbirr, M-Pesa, banks and crypto), bet history and verification.
Language, odds format, notifications and security options. The About screen shows the installed version, which is how you check whether you need an update.

Android: The Melbet Android app is available via a direct APK download from the official Melbet site.
iPhone: it depends on your country's App Store. Where it's listed, the app is called "Melbet: Sport Betting & Casino". The mobile website works in Safari on every iPhone and can be added to your Home Screen. See Melbet on iPhone.
The app uses the same account as the website. If you already have an account, sign in with the same details. If you don't, you can register from the app's sign-up screen, using the same steps as in the registration guide. Problems signing in are covered in the login guide.

Copies of betting apps circulate on third-party sites and in chat groups. Some steal login details. The security page has more on protecting your account.
The APK is about 70.7 MB, so download it on Wi-Fi or a data bundle with room to spare. A download that cuts out halfway is the usual cause of the "problem parsing the package" error. After that, sports pages and slots use relatively little data. Live casino streams and live match video use much more. If you're on a limited bundle, keep live video for Wi-Fi and lower the stream quality inside the game when you're on mobile data.
There's no Windows or macOS program to install. On a computer, Melbet runs in the browser at melbet.et. Chrome and Edge can also install the site as a shortcut app: look for the install icon in the address bar, or choose Install page as app in the browser menu. That opens Melbet in its own window, but it's still the website, with the same features, account and balance.

| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| One tap to the sportsbook, live betting and casino | Android install needs the extra "Install unknown apps" permission |
| Live scores next to live markets | Uses about 70 MB of storage, plus cache |
| Casino and Fast Games in the same app | iPhone availability depends on your country |
| Bet history and cashier always one tap away | APK updates are sometimes manual |
| The same account as the website | Users report slow loading during major matches |
| You are… | Our recommendation |
|---|---|
| A frequent sports bettor | The app: quick access to live markets and bet history. |
| Mainly a casino player | The app or the website. Both have slots, Live Casino and Fast Games. |
| An occasional bettor | The mobile website. Nothing to install or update. |
| Short on storage or using an older phone | The mobile website, added to your Home Screen. |
| On an iPhone | Check the iOS page first. The Safari shortcut always works. |
We judge betting apps against a fixed checklist rather than vague claims like "user-friendly" or "lightning fast". Version numbers and availability are re-checked each time this page is updated. Where a fact comes from a third party, such as Uptodown or the App Store, we name the source.
| What we check | What we record |
|---|---|
| Installation | Time taken, file size, any warnings or errors |
| Login and registration | Number of steps, SMS code delivery to +251 numbers |
| Sportsbook and bet slip | Navigation, search, and how odds changes are handled |
| Live betting | How quickly markets refresh and reopen after suspensions |
| Casino | Loading time, filters, portrait and landscape play |
| Cashier | Which Ethiopian payment methods appear, and the deposit and withdrawal steps |
| Stability and updates | Crashes or freezes, and whether updates arrive in-app or need a new APK |
The app is published by Melbet's operator, Pelican Entertainment B.V. (Curaçao, company number 134359). It holds a Curaçao gaming licence, OGL/2024/561/0554, granted on 15 November 2024 under the National Ordinance on Games of Chance. More detail is on the About page.
There are two separate questions here. Technical safety means an official file, an encrypted connection and a locked phone. Gambling risk is a different thing: you can lose money on any app, licensed or not. Being able to install the app also doesn't by itself mean betting is permitted where you are, so check the rules that apply to you.
Set a budget before you bet. The responsible gambling page explains limits and where to get help.
Yes, on Android. The app is a free APK download from the official Melbet site (version 257.05 when we checked on 29 September 2026). On iPhone it depends on the App Store in your country. The mobile website works on every phone.
Open melbet.et in your phone's browser, tap the Android download, allow "Install unknown apps" for your browser when asked, then open the APK and tap Install.
Search the App Store for "Melbet: Sport Betting & Casino". If it isn't listed in your country, open melbet.et in Safari and use Share → Add to Home Screen.
No separate program. Use melbet.et in your browser, or install it as a shortcut app from Chrome or Edge.
The official APK from the Melbet site is published by the licensed operator, Pelican Entertainment B.V. Copies from other sites can be modified, so don't use them.
The app is installed on your phone. The mobile website runs in your browser. Both use the same account and offer the same products.
Official Melbet downloads are free. Never pay for a Melbet app or APK.
Yes. Sign in with the same details you use on the website.
Install the newest version from the same official source you used originally. On Android, the APK guide covers updating over an existing install.
